Wrap-Up of My 20 Days

Posted by Lisa on August 25, 2011

I've wrapped up my official 20-days of creating or changing a habit.  So, how do you think it's going? Read on to find out...

The first two weeks of transforming my habit of cutting back on taking an over-the-counter pain reliever was pretty easy.  The last two weeks were more difficult.  I've taken the pain reliever consistently for 10 years and in that 10 years I've tried to cut back a couple of times but went back to it when the anxiety (the "what ifs" of stresses in life) kicked in.  I've had a lot of stressers in my life (childhood trauma, deaths, diabetes, etc.) and until now I've felt powerless to deal with these things.  I've felt powerless to deal with life.  The pain reliever became my power.  I've dealt with anxiety and migraines the last couple of weeks (partly from coming off of the pain reliever and partly from feeling safe enough to start meeting stressers face-to-face).  The anxiety will lessen as I continue to practice and remind myself that I now have more options than I did as a child or even yesterday.  I'm learning how to deep breathe (actually going to a teacher for this) and it is bringing up a lot of stress, anxiety and emotions that I had stuffed in but I now have more options and tools than I have in the past.  I continue to remind myself that I have all that I need... me.  I'm learning how to nurture and take care of myself in a kind way.  I'm learning and unlearning all at the same time.  Practice, practice, practice!
